This is a Full-Time Faculty Tenure-Track appointment in the Excepted Service, with an initial term not-to exceed 2 years. Reappointments to additional one or two year terms are possible. If Tenure is achieved (after four to six years), employment will be made permanent, provided a satisfactory performance appraisal is received annually.
Serve as the Department Head, responsible for the administration of the department and exercises the same educational and personnel responsibilities within the department as rests with the Academic Dean for the Faculty as a whole. Accountable to the Academic Dean and Provost.
Leading and establishing a good working rapport with members of the department, other academic departments, and the Academy administration and management.
As a supervisor, exercises delegated responsibility for selection, assignment, and management of subordinate personnel to include planning and directing the work of; performance evaluation; training and professional development
Keeping faculty members informed of changes in Academy policies, procedures, and professional expectations
Developing and recommending educational policies; analyzing and evaluating education data, practices, and trends to improve delivery of course instruction
Ensuring that departmental course offerings, instructional programs, student counseling programs, and other activities are up-to-date, properly scheduled, effectively taught, supported with necessary equipment and services, and periodically reviewed and evaluated.
Submitting budget proposals and administering the approved budget; soliciting contracted teaching support – especially tutors and adjuncts; handling routine business of the department
Assessing departmental and general education programs and learning outcomes in support of Academy institutional learning goals.
Ideal Candidate: The candidate must be a highly motivated and experienced professional possessing a Doctorate degree in a discipline as set forth in the educational requirements with teaching experience at the rank of Associate Professor or higher, and with supervisory experience in higher education administration. Must also possess integrity, stamina, and ingenuity, and be capable of adjusting to various work environments to include on-line and e-learning platforms.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet both the Educational and Specialized Experience requirements. Your resume and application materials (including college transcripts) must show that you have the education and specialized experience necessary to teach college-level humanities courses.
A minimum of 5 years of academic experience teaching in an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study, such as American history, Military/Maritime history, or American Literature at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
AND
A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a position of higher education administration or have other experience which shows the ability to develop or recommend educational policies; analyze and evaluate education data, practices and trends; develop and evaluate curricula; prepare and evaluate instructional materials and teaching aids; plan student and faculty schedules; plan and conduct scholarly research; and plan and direct the work of a Department with one or more subject matter fields, including evaluating faculty utilizing a Performance Management System.
Highly Desirable:
Associate of Full Professor at an accredited institution of higher education.
Five years of supervisory experience, at least three years at the Department Head/Chair level.
Team/consensus builder, and mentor for junior faculty.
Committed to the process of continuous improvement in higher education through course-level and program level assessment.
Familiar with General Education requirements and programs.
Previous experience and/or knowledge regarding the process and requirements for reaccreditation by a regional accrediting body.
Well organized, and strategic thinker.
