Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:

  • Administer the operational security posture and administration of DOC OIG’s network infrastructure to secure, protect, defend, and prevent future incidents, as appropriate.  Perform operational security, network and security engineering and administration including the open systems interconnection model (OSI) layers in accordance with IT best practices and governmental standards.  Design, develop, manage, maintain and execute DOC OIG information security policies, standards and procedures to support and meet customers’ needs.
  • Design, implement, tune, and use Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools to detect, prevent, and respond to IT security incidents, following operational processes and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate, and assist in remediation of critical information security incidents.
  • Provide operational management and technical support for the design, development and implementation of DOC OIG IT network architecture, network security, cloud migration, security plans, disaster recovery, continuity of operations, and risk assessments.   
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to a broad range of cybersecurity efforts under review and development.  Perform assessment and authorization of software, hardware, cloud, and infrastructure; requiring a strong understanding in security, network engineering, network protocols, network architecture, cloud, and internal controls.  Conduct continuous monitoring of multiple security technologies such as IDS/IPS, syslog, file integrity, vulnerability scanners, and correlates and analyzes events.
  • Drive innovation by proactively researching and recommending secure cyber security technologies that will reduce cost, increase effectiveness, and drive efficiencies.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:  For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Analyzing and researching Information Security Programs to assess risks and weaknesses; AND
  • Experience applying IT security concepts, standards and methods, including information systems security, network protocols and regulations. AND
  • Developing and maintaining information security policies and procedures. 

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.
