    Responsibilities

    Within guidelines established by the Director of the National Science Foundation, establishes policies and provides strategic advice to NSF leadership with a broad policy-level advice, assistance and support on a wide range of scientific and policy matters relevant to the mission of the Foundation in the content of global science leadership, partnerships, and opportunities.  The Office facilitates the coordination and integration of international science and engineering programs and activities throughout NSF and with other agencies, domestic and international.  It also manages a range of international programs and activities that are responsive to promising opportunities presented by the global science and engineering research and education enterprise.  The Office also has primary responsibility for the coordination of NSF’s formal science and engineering relations with countries throughout the world.  OISE facilitates NSF participation in and/or support for providing general information, trends, advice and guidance about the global science and engineering enterprise to NSF management and other NSF organizational units, and for assisting in the development and implementation of NSF strategies that enable the development of a globally engaged workforce.  OISE coordinates its work, as appropriate, with the Department of State, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, U.S. Government technical and national security and foreign affairs agencies, and foreign and international science and engineering organizations.

    The Office Head, OISE has managerial and oversight responsibilities for the effective use of OISE staff and resources in meeting organizational goals and objectives.  This includes implementing overall strategic planning, and policy setting.  Supervises and provides leadership and guidance to OISE staff.  Fosters partnerships with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations and the academic community. The Office Head, OISE is a member of the NSF senior management team.
