Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (Sysanalysis) at the GS-2210-11/12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Formulates, integrates, evaluates and implements IT plans, policies, and standards.
  • Provides technical guidance and advice requiring a high level of skill in analyzing systems status as related to potential organizational business requirements.
  • Resolves conflicts associated with the computer configurations and system performance.
  • Plans, initiates, manages, coordinates, reviews, and evaluates projects relating to complex computer-based information systems.
  • Participates in defining business processes, evaluating alternatives and identifying IT solutions that will foster continuous improvement.Develops new standards, methods, and techniques; evaluates the impact of technological change; and conceives of solutions to highly complex technical issues.
  • Ensures that software, systems and services are developed and delivered in accordance with customer requirements and current technology by using judgment, resourcefulness and creative thinking.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-11 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:

  • Providing technical analysis, advice, guidance, and recommendations to senior IT subject-matter experts.
  • Reviewing metrics to measure and evaluate IT systems and project performance and total cost of ownership, OR
B. Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the field of Information Technology or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (transcripts required).

You may qualify at the GS-12 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
  • Applying customer requirements, business processes and operations, life cycle management concepts, configuration management and cost-benefit analysis methods in order to develop IT solutions.
  • Establishing metrics to measure and evaluate IT systems and project performance and total cost of ownership.
You may qualify at the GS-13 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
  • Applying customer requirements, business processes and operations, life cycle management concepts, configuration management and cost-benefit analysis methods in order to develop IT solutions.
  • Establishing metrics to measure and evaluate IT systems and project performance and total cost of ownership.
  • Managing significant IT systems, services, products or programs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 2210 series:

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for the GS-12 and GS-13 grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

This position may include information assurance (IA) work as an embedded duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
