Duties

Help

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Enterprise Security Systems Division (ESSD), Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) in Washington, District of Columbia.

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the operations of the business systems utilized by the Office of the Chief Security Officer. This includes information security compliance, disaster recovery planning, system consolidation, planning, information technology acquisition and deployment management. The OCSO exercises the DHS-wide security authorities in the area of personnel security, physical security administrative security, special security, counterintelligence, operations, security-related internal investigations and security training and awareness.

Duties Performed:

  • Plan and design security architecture for various network and general support systems.
  • Enforcing information security standards and policies for the Office of the Chief Security Officer (OCSO) business systems.
  • Ensuring certification, accreditation and security for the organizations business systems.
  • Ensuring adequate security design mechanisms are in place that address vulnerability, survivability, and reliability, of information systems.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement: You must meet all of the items listed below:

  1. Attention to Detail- assessing IT Information Security programs and systems to ensure compliance with policies:
  2. Customer Service- providing IT Information Security technical advice and guidance to management and other technical specialist;
  3. Oral Communication- making recommendations that significantly influence agency IT Information Security policies or program;
  4. Problem Solving- applying new developments to previously unsolved IT Information Security problems.
AND

Specialized Experience:
GS-13: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
  • Working with subject matter experts to ensure IT Information Security systems meet established IT Information Security requirements;
  • Monitoring, testing, and evaluating information for IT Information Security systems;
  • Planning and designing security architecture for various IT Information Security systems;
  • Ensuring adequate IT Information Security design mechanisms are in place that will address survivability, maintainability and reliability of the organizations business systems.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for Top Secret clearance as a condition of placement in this Special Sensitive position. This review includes financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
