Duties

Help
  • Prepare accounting reports, review financial statements (related footnotes) and Treasury reports, and perform accounting reconciliations.
  • Ensure data posted to the Data Collection Module and submitted to the Defense Departmental Reporting System (DDRS) is correct.
  • Verify and disclose abnormal account balances in footnotes, and conduct variance analysis.
  • Resolve issues related to the assessment/audit of the financial statements and footnotes.
  • Respond to DFAS and Financial Statement team data calls and audit support.
  • Perform general ledger account analysis, and work with DFAS to reconcile and adjust financial accounts.
  • Review, evaluate, document and coordinate internal control requirements related to financial accounting systems, processes and reports.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve financial transactions in the DAI accounting system.
  • Ensure supporting documentation for purchase requests and other financial requests are accurate, and in accordance with the DoD Financial Management Regulation, and other applicable laws.

  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.


Basic Requirement: A. Degree: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (the 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law). You MUST submit transcripts to verify your education claim at the time of application

OR

B. Combination of education and experience - at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following: 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. (This can include up to 6 hours of business law) OR a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination. OR Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.(You MUST submit transcripts to verify your education claim at the time of application)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must meet the specialized experience described below.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in the federal service or an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as reconciling data between financial and reporting systems to correct account relationships and trial balance anomalies; analyzing, explaining, and correcting financial statement variances to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAP); and utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of common Government Accountability Office (GAO), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Treasury, and Departmental standards and regulations to prepare financial and accounting reports, execute financial transactions, and implement internal controls..

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
