Help

The Audiologist (Section Chief) is located within Primary Care (PC) Service at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVAMC). Incumbent is responsible for the management and direction of the unified audiology sections delivering specialized clinical services to Veterans. Incumbent functions as an independent practitioner for clinical responsibilities and is fully responsible for all clinical, administrative, and managerial decisions under the general oversight of the Chief, PC.Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides orientation and training for medical staff, students and trainees;
  • Provides in-service education for partnering services to provide quality interdisciplinary care for patients;
  • Develops, organizes, directs, manages, controls and implements policies and procedures in Audiology clinical programs;
  • Plans, assesses and evaluates programs to ensure proper coordination between Audiology service and overall healthcare delivery;
  • Establishes and monitors productivity standards, production and performance priorities, and program goals and missions;
  • Develops and oversees service level budget;
  • Keeps current with theory and practice through continuing education programs, journals, textbooks, and other literature and in-service programs.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts between 0630-1730; specific schedule to be set by supervisor.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/27/2020.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education. Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university is required. "Accredited" means a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) and/or the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree programs in audiology or hearing science.
  • Licensure. The incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. [Copy of License Required]
  • English Language Proficiency. Audiologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation).

Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience in the audiology field.

Grade Determinations:
In addition to the Basic Requirements, candidates must meet the grade determination below:

Education and Experience: Completion of 1 year of professional experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level (ability to develop coherent treatment strategies, knowledge of clinical services, and the ability to perform them independently, ability to conduct assessments and provide treatment interventions, ability to provide consultation to other health care professionals, knowledge of contemporary audiology practice, ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice)In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified for the assignment and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs as indicated by an asterisk (*). a. Ability to balance responsibilities and to work with great autonomy; b. Ability to set priorities and delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational problems and develop and implement effective solutions; *c. Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the section; d. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers; e. Knowledge of, and ability to utilize, evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines in a professional area, and to guide the section staff in applying these tools; *f. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation; g. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution; and h. Skill in the application and analysis of scientific and clinical literature in a professional area.

Physical Requirements: Position requires vision in both eyes, use of both arms and legs, ability to walk and stand for 6 hours per day, ability to hear, ability to distinguish colors and shades, mental and emotional stability, ability to drive and have a driver license, repeated bending, use of fingers. Be able to manage outside and inside environments, travel to satellite sites, be able to tolerates fumes, odors; work with audiology machinery and parts, work closely with others, work alone, assist patient care using safe approved modalities. Desk work, computer work, patient care work, audiology technical testing and hearing aid work.
