Duties

Help

You will be responsible for planning, development, revision, and adaptation of computer graphics, digital multimedia, photographs, illustrations for print and electronic instructional and performance improvement materials.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Designing, conceptualizing, and selecting visual information material for a variety of training requirements.
  • Using technical, artistic, and photographic skills to plan layouts.
  • Operating industry-standard computer graphics programs and electronic digital imagery systems in the production of visual requirements.
  • Assisting in the compiling and deployment of interactive electronic courseware intended to be used on Mobile Learning Devices.
  • Designing and developing graphic aviation engineering system simulations for interactive multimedia use in both resident and advanced distributed learning situations.
  • Developing a wide variety of training devices such as computer-based training/instructional materials, electronic job aids, and visual aids.

Qualifications

At the GS-09 applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience may include: planning, designing, producing and coordinating visual, graphic exhibits or presentation materials; advising customers on cost, visual effectiveness, and appropriate media for projects; producing slides, transparencies, photographs, original art work and illustrations, pamphlets, booklets, brochures, and catalogues; frames; using computer graphics to create visual products and integrating information from one software package into another; developing original designs to enhance the subject matter content.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

OR

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other field related to the position.

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related

OR

Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples include: to obtain, analyze, and organize information using standard reference tools and established techniques and practices; as well as the creation, design, development, and production of various visual materials.

The necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this job are:

  1. Knowledge of artistic and technical illustration, photography, as well as visual information concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques.
  2. Thorough knowledge and experience using the following software: Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Bridge CC, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro, Microsoft Office 2016, Articulate Storyline 3 or Storyline 360,Solidworks/Fusion 360 3D Software.
  3. Knowledge to confer with curriculum designers, course writers, instructors, and subject matter experts to coordinate development of the best-fit instructional multimedia solution.
  4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
