Duties

Help
  • Provides a broad scope of program management and secretarial support for the Unit as well as serving as the primary administrative business process point of contact.
  • Participates in unit reviews and workshops; keeps managers and scientists informed of upcoming reviews; prepares handouts; if requested, makes presentations related to the procedural and documentation requirements of the reporting system.
  • Performs various tasks using on-line systems such as information searches on the World Wide Web (e.g., literature searches for CRIS projects) in support of the research program.
  • Receives and reads all incoming correspondence directed to the unit and initiates actions necessary for its proper disposition.
  • Prepares travel requests and vouchers for foreign and domestic travel.
  • Prepares and processes financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property and personnel documentation.

At the GS-06:

Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing program management tasks including preparing and processing financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property or personnel documentation; maintaining detailed records; coordinating all aspects of travel for staff or supervisors; and reviewing and editing documents to verify completeness, accuracy, and conformance with professional standards.

At the GS-07:

Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing program management tasks including preparing, processing, and tracking financial, procurement, extramural agreements, property, or personnel documentation; maintaining detailed records; coordinating all aspects of travel for staff or supervisors; reviewing and editing documents to verify completeness, accuracy, and conformance with professional standards; and ensuring compliance with regulations for all program administrative procedures.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements above, applicants must also be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
