Help

  • Healthcare & Consumer Products Section - health care, insurance, pulp, paper, timber, food products, dairy, and beer;
  • Media, Entertainment & Professional Services Section - motion pictures, music publishing, concert and event promotion, publishing, radio, television, newspapers, advertising, sports and recreation, credit cards, and real estate; and
  • Telecommunications & Broadband Section - broadband Internet, cable and satellite television, mobile wireless service, and telephony.
These sections investigate and litigate potentially anticompetitive mergers, pursue other civil antitrust violations, advocate for competitive markets both domestically and internationally, and frequently interact with federal and state agencies and withinternational competition authorities. Because these sections are responsible for industries that play a central role in Americans' daily lives, their cases and activities have a substantial impact on consumers and the U.S. economy. Each section's responsibilities include merger review, other civil investigations, and litigation of anticompetitive conduct as well as public advocacy for policies that ensure an innovative and competitive marketplace. Attorneys in these sections frequently grapple with challenging cases involving technical complexity, technological change, barriers to entry, and evolving competitive and regulatory landscapes. Successful applicants can expect to be given significant responsibility and have immediate
involvement with matters of national importance. The attorneys hired can also expect a collegial and stimulating work environment involving collaboration with highly experienced attorneys and economists on cutting-edge matters and to enjoy the satisfaction of serving the public interest.

Qualifications

To qualify, an applicant must:

  1. Be a citizen of the United States;
  2. Possess a J.D. or equivalent degree, be an active member in good standing of a bar in any U.S. jurisdiction, and have at least one year of post-J.D. legal experience to qualify at the GS-12 level, one and a half years of post-J.D. legal experience to qualify at the GS-13 level, two and a half years of post-J.D. legal experience to qualify at the GS-14 level, and/or four years of post-J.D. experience to qualify at the GS-15 level;
  3. Have strong antitrust and/or litigation experience; and
  4. Demonstrate excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills

This appointment is in the Excepted Service, and is subject to a one-year trial period in accordance with 5 CFR 316.304.
