Duties

Help
  • Functions as liaison with surveying agencies (such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Inspector General, Army Audit Agency, Internal Review, and Judge Advocate) to keep abreast of changing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the operation of an effective system of internal control by periodically reviewing internal control measures and initiating needed revisions and by conducting vulnerability assessments on an annual basis.
  • Serves as Program Manager for the Third Party Collection Program, Medical Affirmative Claims and the Medical Services Account (TPCP/MSA/MAC) at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), which includes MEDICAID and MEDICARE reimbursement methodology.
  • Ensures reimbursement from private insurance companies on charges for medical services provided at MAMC to Uniformed Services beneficiaries who also carry private health insurance.
  • Serves as Clinical Resource, assisting physicians and hospital staff in interpreting existing guidelines and developing department/service/clinic level plans, which explain guidelines.
  • Serves as a technical expert in developing, implementing, training, evaluating, and improving the Uniform Business Office.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes determining eligibility or acute care hospitalization and the medical benefits associated with numerous medical insurance policies, and administering and managing an outpatient billing and collection system, and developing and monitoring internal control procedures for admissions and outpatient clinic visits of patients with private insurance. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following:

Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems;

Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and

Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
