Summary

The incumbent serves duties as a Transportation Assistant, the duties of which are to initiate and complete a wide variety of administrative and technical tasks for the Beneficiary Travel (BT) Program. The organizational location of the Position is at the Austin campus within the Beneficiary Travel Unit, Eligibility and Processing Section, Medical Administration Service, Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS).

Help

The incumbent will independently manage the Beneficiary Travel (BT) Program for the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) which has an annual budget of over $9 million. The BT program provides transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment, or care. This employee bears the responsibility for independent performance of all duties inherent in this position.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares electronic vouchers in Veterans Health Information Systems & Technology Architecture (VistA) through use of the Beneficiary Travel (BT) Dashboard.
  • Receives Veterans making claims for reimbursement at the time of discharge from the medical center, domiciliary, nursing home care unit, or when on an outpatient visit.
  • Incumbent prepares travel forms and schedules airline flights for Veterans in the Organ Transplant Program, Blind Rehabilitation Program, and/or other programs as needed.

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/26/2020.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of transportation regulations, directives, and procedures involving Beneficiary Travel; a working knowledge of basic accounting principles; and experience with computer systems.

  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school . OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 4 years above high school.

Physical Requirements: This position requires some physical effort (such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, answering telephones, and filing. The position also requires long hours at a keyboard.
