Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Federal Records Center Program. As a/an Archives Technician, you will safeguard the nation's records, including citizen tax returns, Official Military Personnel Folders, passport applications, and National Security Information (NSI) by maintaining facilities that are fully compliant with regulations that protect records from fire, theft, pests, water damage and natural disasters.

Duties

Help

As an Archives Technician (History), you will:

- Provide reference service by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; and, refiles or interfiles records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.

- Perform various duties related to the acceptance of incoming transfers of Federal records.

- Use the Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS) to assign newly received transfers to electronic staging areas or individual shelf locations.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

1. Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information; AND
2. Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines; AND
3. Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.

OR

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
