  • Execute analytical research projects, and research the quality of methodologies.
  • Prepare and maintain various statistical production and management reports, charts, and graphs.
  • Use statistical applications and specialized statistical programs.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirements: In order to qualify at either grade level you must possess one of the following:

Have a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

OR

Have a combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance

In addition the basic education requirement, you must also meet the one of the Basic Qualification Requirements:

You qualify at the GS-11 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: applying a variety of statistical techniques such as logistic regression, survival models, generalized risk models, analysis of frequency distributions, analysis and modeling of multivariates, sampling, analysis of variance, determining confidence limits, and estimating magnitude; developing or modifying data collection methods; using statistical procedures to summarize, display in graphic form, and analyze factual data; and using automated applications and programs to analyze statistical data;

OR

Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree;

OR

A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position. Experience includes a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet the following qualification requirement:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, organizing, and carrying out statistical studies and/or projects for specific project segments; analyzing data using appropriate statistical techniques and presenting verified results along with preliminary interpretations and recommending appropriate statistical methods for carrying out further analyses; planning and designing the criteria and study
