Duties

Help

The Logistics Assistant will research, order, and inventory supplies and equipment in order to provide adequate and timely logistics support to Corps members and Corporation staff. Primary duties include:

  • Conducts surveys of supply, equipment (including computers and other electronic devices), and furniture needs to facilitate campus operations.
  • Prepares, and submits purchase orders or other requests to the Support Services Specialist for purchasing supplies, equipment and furniture.
  • Purchases supplies, equipment and services for the campus through the use of the Government Purchase Card (GPC). Receives all purchases made through GPC program. Verifies quantity, description, condition, and price to actual order. Reconciles the monthly GPC statement. Prepares Cardholder Statement of Questioned Items (CSQI) in cases of billing discrepancies.
  • Receives ordered items and equipment and verifies quantity, description, condition, and price to actual order.
  • Determines stock levels for items based on usage, inventory, project demands, seasonal demands, changing customer needs and projected depletions.
  • Disposes items that are unserviceable or unneeded in accordance with established procedures.
  • Inspects campus dormitory(s) for obvious maintenance, safety, or cleanliness issues. May perform a variety of light maintenance and repair work for the Campus, for example: changing light bulbs, adding toner to copy machines, moving light furniture, making simple or minor repairs to non electrical equipment.
  • Helps resolve individual computer problems by working with the Agency's Office of Information Technology Help Desk.
  • Conducts vehicle driver safety tests required to drive 15 passenger vans, as necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants must have two years of general experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower range of the NY-01 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-3 level in the Federal Service. General experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Experience should include work requiring tracking of multiple activities or property like: supplies, computer assignments, schedules; and experience working with spreadsheets and databases.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have 2 years of successfully completed education above high school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards.

This Term Appointment will initially be for a two-year period, but may be extended for a total of five years. Should the need arise, this position may be made permanent without further competition.

As an employee on a Term Appointment, you will not acquire competitive status and you will not be covered by the agency's Interchange Agreement with the Office of Personnel Management, which allows for noncompetitive transfer from CNCS to other agencies in the competitive service of the federal government.
