The primary purpose of the position is to conduct laboratory experiments, field plot studies, and collection of samples in watersheds to determine the occurrence, fate and transport of agriculturally-important pollutants and to evaluate the effectiveness of management practices and mitigation procedures.
Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to conduct laboratory experiments, field plot studies, and collection of samples in watersheds to determine the occurrence, fate and transport of agriculturally-important pollutants and to evaluate the effectiveness of management practices and mitigation procedures.
Collects, prepares, evaluates and verifies water, soil, plant, or agricultural material samples and supporting records for research projects evaluating environmental contaminants.
Searches scientific literature for established methods to meet assignment objectives in the laboratory or field and adapts, modifies or develops new methods to ensure that goals of the environmental contaminants research projects are achieved.
Initiates action to resolve or correct technical difficulties with equipment and discrepancies with data in the experimental process and recommends resolution to supervisor.
Maintains, calibrates and modifies complex/specialized analytical and extraction equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Performs analyses using sophisticated chromatographic and spectroscopic instruments especially, liquid chromatography (LC) or gas chromatography (GC) using mass spectrometry detection (MSMS); ultraviolet spectroscopy; and flame ionization detector.
Enters data into spreadsheets, performs further calculations, statistically analyzes and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
