Duties

Help

GAO is seeking experienced professionals to serve as Communications Analysts (Written); responsible for supporting teams and offices in developing and producing written products and providing instruction on message development and writing.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing expert-level written communications support concurrently to multiple teams or individuals working on complex or high-risk engagements.
  • Providing expert level review and revise draft products to improve coherence, logic flow, clarity and adherence to GAO quality standards. 
  • Reviewing documents to ensure all elements of a finding are present for products with recommendations and provide input on the sufficiency of the level of evidence for those products. 
  • Working with engagement teams or individuals to draft products using plain language to help communicate GAO’s complex findings to the general public in written products as well as social media posts.
  • Providing coaching to staff on matters involving the written content of GAO products.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower band level, or equivalent to PT-II, PE-IIA, CS-II or GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service, which has equipped the applicant with the skills and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience in conducting quality control tasks on written communications on complex and high-risk assignments to include reviewing and analyzing draft products prior to publication, ensuring documents are in alignment with federal and organizational standards and coaching staff to develop clear and concise written content

This is a bargaining unit position.

Based on the staffing needs, additional selections may be made through this vacancy announcement.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid for by the GAO.

  • Knowledge of principles of writing in order to analyze written information of a technical nature for logic, clarity, consistency, and readability.
  • Knowledge of GAO policies and procedures, Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, the GAO engagement process and planning tools, the elements of a finding, and how to develop recommendations in a written product.
  • Skill in analyzing and helping to develop complex and high-risk written products.
  • Skill in developing staff writing by providing relevant learning experiences and leading by example
