Summary

This position is in DERA, Office of Structured Disclosure (OSD) located in Washington, DC.

OSD leads the design and implementation of technological processes and tools to support the many and increasing structured data needs of the Commission, including the design, creation, review, implementation, and maintenance of taxonomies, forms and processes designed to capture structured data from SEC registrants through their filings and postings as required by the SEC.

Duties

Help

  • Conduct extensive analyses and reviews of financial information, data, and releases to maintain up-to-date information concerning financial changes, trends, and problems within the securities industry. Develop financial analyses and recommendations for issues that warrant attention and/or investigation or examination by SEC.
  • Assist rulemaking teams in the identification of areas for the application of structured disclosures and in the development of appropriate language to articulate the implications, requirements, and potential benefits and costs.
  • Assist OSD team with maintaining taxonomies and coordinating with different parties to optimize the application and quality of the related structured disclosures.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing for both technical and non-technical audiences, often including software demonstrations, presenting formal and informal briefing materials to SEC staff as well as others outside the SEC.

Qualifications

Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-13 level.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SK-14: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level: work in structured disclosure and analytical processes; and financial accounting, financial reporting and related auditing standards and at least three of the following areas: financial market security laws and regulations; financial reporting compliance and related review processes; financial regulations, rule proposals, economic analysis, guidance, observation materials, validation and quality rules; reporting taxonomies (e.g. U.S. GAAP, IFRS, etc.); and communication of technical information in a manner consumable by both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral and Written Communication, and Problem Solving.
