Duties

Help

  • Preparing, rewriting, and/or editing and reviewing reports for logic, clarity, and completeness of argument; formulating messages for written products.
  • Providing employees throughout the OIG with advice and assistance and reviewing drafts to ensure that each document accurately reflects the intent of the report findings and conclusions, is in accordance with the OIG report writing policy, review standards, visual and other communication requirements.
  • Verifying report data so that it can be understood and used effectively by the intended audience and is consistent with the appropriate tone and policy of the OIG.
  • Advising on when new approaches are needed to prevent adverse audience reaction or misunderstanding and is responsible for special consideration and treatment required of reports that are politically sensitive or controversial.
  • Evaluating problems encountered in communicating OIG policies. Advising on and making recommendations designed to address these problems.
  • Developing, writing, and/or editing OIG Manual Chapters, IG Bulletins, Information, Procedural and Policy Notices, and other internal policy and procedural documents in conjunction with senior leaders. This requires considerable research on organizational and professional areas that are usually very complex and comprehensive.

Specialized Experience Statement:

GS-14: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes: experience applying principles, methods, practices and techniques of writing and editing to function as the technical authority on the publication of all information material for print and digital media for an agency; experience developing written materials to convey information and clarify issues on programs and functions to a public with a diverse level of understanding of agency programs and activities; experience integrating information and data from various sources and generate logical, effective and accurate communication documents; experience communicating orally and writing in a clear, concise, organized and convincing manner for the intended audience.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME-IN-GRADE: If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled.

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 03/05/2020.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation may be required for all new hires.
