About the Position:
This is a full-time civilian faculty position at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. Initial appointment may be up to four years, with the first year a trial period. The appointment may be renewed in one- to five-year increments thereafter. Academic rank and salary will be based on the selectee's academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments.

Duties

Help
  • Collaborate with strategic leaders and faculty to develop and teach custom strategic and serious games for use in graduate-level curriculum and to inform senior leader decision making
  • Develop and teach protocols and systems to virtual existing strategic games to allow online play in support of distance education
  • Serve as a thought-leader on the implications to game programming of innovations such as 3-D technologies, artificial intelligence, big data, remote and autonomous systems
  • Serve as the Army War College expert on the potential revolutions in game design that will impact the character of strategic gaming and the education of senior leaders
  • Assist in the development and delivery of graduate-level curriculum which focuses on strategic and serious gaming; teach at least one elective each academic year
  • Participate in wargames and workshops, and write and publish on matters of importance related to strategic/serious game programming and wargaming
  • Engage in internal and external service in support of institutional missions

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best qualified candidates.

1. Master's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, Digital Arts/New Media, Interactive Media or closely related field is required; Ph.D. is preferred.
2. Demonstrated experience in developing, programming and teaching serious or strategic games designed to explore and educate participants in the diplomatic, informational, military or economic instruments of national power - or closely related experience.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with a team of wargamers, faculty and other leaders to conceptualize and develop serious or strategic games to achieve specific curricular or organizational outcomes.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise working with all industry-standard game design, game programming, 3D Modeling and Animation, and management software applications, engines and tools, as well as related hardware; Knowledge of work flow in multi-platform game production and publication.
5. Demonstrated experience in applying all facets of the 3D Modeling and Animation for game design and development, including technical, managerial and artistic advances; current research (traditional and applied); and industry developments.
6. Demonstration of an active professional practice and portfolio showing a combination of developed games, game into learning and game scholarship.
7. Active involvement in professional networks relevant to gaming or programming.
