Duties

Help

As a Visual Information Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Producing a wide range of visual communications, illustrations, special designs and layouts from conception to production, and providing a finished product that enables the viewers to better comprehend the ideas and programs presented and is of special significance in presenting information of vital interest to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mission
  • Performing the full range of complex assignments and projects using expertise in multiple computer systems and applications, such as, Adobe InDesign (Creative Suites 5), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Professional Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Power Point
  • Performing desktop publishing, multi-media projects, and Web graphic design under changing deadlines
  • Consulting with management/program officials on information, objectives, and/or theme of project, and providing advisory services to management/program officials seeking guidance on projects
  • Presenting and exchanging technical and other types of information and ideas needed to complete projects

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

There is an Occupational Series Qualification for this position. You must meet one of the following in addition to the minimum qualifications and selective placement factors stated below to be considered for the position:

  1. Possess a degree (Bachelor's or higher) from an accredited college or university with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position
  2. Possess specialized experience planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means
  3. Possess a combination of 1 and 2 that totals 100%
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  • Planning, designing, developing and coordinating the production of unique and complex visual presentation materials that present to the public the ideas or images that communicate information desired by the organization that evoke certain responses from viewers
  • Producing a wide range of visual communications, illustrations, special designs and layouts from conception to production to communicate the visual requirement of the projects to those providing state-of-the-art materials pertinent to the project development; and
  • Using the following applications: Adobe lnDesign (Creative Suites 5), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Professional Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Power Point in developing visual/desktop publishing requirements and procedures to meet the needs of the organization and ensure availability of appropriate equipment/materials
You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
  • Performing the full range of complex assignments and projects that involve using acquired expertise in multiple computer systems and applications to plan, design, develop, and coordinate the production of engineering drawings, presentation art, and typographic designs that incorporate photographs, multimedia and web design, illustrations, forms, diagrams, maps, charts, artist conceptions, and technical renderings
  • Producing a wide range of visual communications, illustrations, special designs and layouts from conception to production to communicate the visual requirement of the projects to those providing state-of-the-art materials pertinent to the project development; and
  • Using the following applications: Adobe InDesign (Creative Suites 5), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Professional Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Power Point in developing visual/desktop publishing requirements and procedures to meet the needs of the organization and ensure availability of appropriate equipment/materials
Selective Placement Factor(s): Selective placement factors are applied in the same manner as minimum qualification requirements. Relevant selective placement factor experience must be well documented in your resume. Failure to meet a selective placement factor will result in you not receiving further consideration. In addition to the occupational series qualification and minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following selective placement factor(s):
  • Expertise in creating animations for graphics for a range of content for law enforcement or legal organization
  • Expertise taking complex content and translating it into motion graphic solutions that are highly visual and tell a story to an external facing national audience
