About the Position: Martin Army Community Hospital was opened in 1958 and is named in honor of the late Major General Joseph I. Martin, Medical Corps. Fort Benning's MEDDAC, furnishes medical care to an eligible patient population in excess of 72,000 beneficiaries. Its primary facility is Martin Army Community Hospital (MACH), Building 9200, conveniently located off I-185 and Marne Road.

Work Schedule - Monday-Friday 9 hour days and 30 min lunch. Off every other Friday

Duties

Help
  • Repairs and/or replaces a wide variety of commercially manufactured locking devices on structures and equipment made of various wood and metal material
  • Uses and sets up hand and power tools and equipment and adjusts cutting angles and speed of equipment to required specifications
  • Reads, interprets and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and technical manuals
  • Reviews and interprets drawings, blueprints and manuals as required to determine facility/system layout and location of specific structures and fixtures and specifications
  • Determines best method for obtaining entry with minimal damage to structure/equipment and locking hardware
  • Repairs roof by matching to existing materials such as sheet, rolled and shingle ensuring proper alignment and overlap; installs flashing

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpenter (Locksmith/MotorVehicleOperator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as fabricating keys, drilling core, picking locks, lock manipulation, cutting lock out, cutting off padlocks, drilling safes, etc. Replace or repair locking mechanisms and makes repairs to structure or equipment damage as a result of entry method used. I can accomplish carpentry work by measuring and cutting materials to exact specifications using straight, angle and curved cuts to ensure accurate fit, alignment, structural soundness and finished appearance. I install materials by nailing, bolting, doweling and gluing. I have applied caulking compounds or other filler material around joints where tight seal is required. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Work requires considerable standing, stooping, kneeling and bending; works in overhead, stretched, cramped and awkward positions. Works on roofs, ladders and scaffolds. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using certain tools and equipment. Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination is required for delicate locksmith work. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing about 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items
  • Work is performed both indoors and out. Exposed to a variety of weather conditions, dust and dirt while working outdoors. Inside work is usually in buildings that are adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. When working from roofs, ladders and scaffolds there is danger of serious injury from falls. Subject to noise, bruises, cuts and more serious injuries from hand or power tools; danger of flying wood chips and metal splinters; dust and dirt; eye, skin and lung irritation from fumes, solvents or paint; back strains from lifting heavy material. May be required to work in asbestos contaminated areas. As required, wears protective clothing and equipment
