Duties

Help
  • Providing confidential and informal assistance to managers and employees to resolve sensitive and often moderately complex work-related issues.
  • Performing research and information-gathering to understand the overall context of dispute situations.
  • Working with individual parties to understand the basic nature of the disputes, issues involved and positions of various parties in order to analyze the overall situation, it's complexity, and the action or basic approach to be taken.
  • Using a variety of alternative dispute resolution techniques to provide parties with resolution options and facilitate their interaction and successful resolution.
  • Providing consultation to the NIH community regarding the process of alternative dispute resolution.
  • Participating in the delivery of mediation and negotiation training for the NIH community.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in mediation or facilitation activities to resolve interpersonal workplace conflicts; conducting portions of workshops and presentations on conflict resolution techniques and procedures; and assisting in providing guidance to managers and employees on Alternative Dispute Resolution processes and methods.

OR
Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related;

OR
A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.

To qualify for the GS-12: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: working as a third-party intervenor (such as mediator or facilitator) to resolve interpersonal workplace conflicts; developing and conducting workshops and presentations on communication and conflict resolution techniques and procedures to the organization; and providing guidance to managers and employees on Alternative Dispute Resolution processes and methods.

To qualify for the GS-13: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Working as a third-party intervenor (such as mediator or facilitator) to resolve interpersonal workplace conflicts involving multiple workplace issues and dynamics; developing and conducting workshops and presentations on communication and conflict resolution techniques and procedures to Alternative Dispute Resolution Practitioners; providing guidance to managers and employees on Alternative Dispute Resolution processes and methods used to identify and resolve systemic issues; and promoting the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution processes and methods through media campaigns, websites, emails, and presentations.
