This position is a mission critical occupation and is responsible for ensuring that operational and fiscal activities align with and enable accomplishment of Health Resources and Services Administration's mission, goals and objectives.

As a Staff Assistant,you are in charge of providing administrative services for a variety of operations.

Your major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Establishing office/division policies and procedures, developing, and implementing changes and improvements to facilitate flow of work between the rests of the programs.
  • Providing timekeeping to the staff assigned, maintaining records, resolving leave differences, inputs time and attendance, performing audits as necessary and reports to ITAS Coordinator.
  • Analyzes the flow of information within MCHB and develops processes to ensure that information is efficiently and effectively managed throughout the office/division confidentiality.
  • Manage travel arrangements and logistics.
  • Providing vital functions or services such as management analysis, electronic reports management, data processing, or other closely related activities.

In order to qualify for this GS-9 position, your resume must demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-7 level in the federal service.

Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: monitoring travel submissions and coordinating resolution of travel issues and concerns; assisting with administrative issues and procedures and providing recommendations to increase efficiency and effectiveness of administrative operations; and using different automated systems such as ConcurGov, GovTrip, SWIFT, etc. to gather, process and reconcile routine information.

OR

Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or at least 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D. To be qualifying, the higher level graduate education must be in a major field of study in business administration, accounting, management, or finance or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of this Staff Assistant position.

OR

Have an equivalent combination of the above specialized experience AND higher level graduate education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this Staff Assistant position.

In order to qualify for this GS-11 position, your resume must demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-9 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: using SWIFT to review, process and disseminate organizational controlled correspondence; organizing and managing logistics for meetings, committees, workshops, etc.; and developing standard operating procedures, flowcharts, power point presentations, etc. for modifying, revising work processes, procedural changes, etc.

OR

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M. To be qualifying, the higher level graduate education must be in a major field of study in business administration, accounting, management, or finance or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of this Staff Assistantposition.

OR

Have an equivalent combination of the above specialized experience AND higher level graduate education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this Staff Assistant position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.

ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGEMENT - Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.

MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS - Conducts research and solves organizational inefficiencies to increase the effectiveness of the organization.

TRAVEL MANAGEMENT - Assists travelers and travel planners in interpreting and applying travel regulations, policies and procedures.

APPLIES TECHNOLOGY TO TASKS - Selects and understand procedures, machines, or tools that will produce the desired results; identifies or solves problems in machines, computers or other technologies, as they are related to performing tasks.
