Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the advisor on public affairs issues for the Commanding Officer and subordinate organizations.
  • You will have oversight and execution of the Naval Medical Research Center Public Affairs programs: media and internal relations, community relations and outreach, publication production, contingency, employee and crisis communications programs.
  • You will serve as the Media Officer, acts as the default command spokesperson and assists the Commanding Officer with communicating to the core audience.
  • You will draft publications and speeches for the Commanding Officer, ensuring that all security clearance requirements have been met
  • You will advise subordinate commands in conducting a "Hometown News Program," and internal medium by which positive stories of military and civilian staff are marketed to hometown or designated newspapers.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Public Affairs, GS-1035-13, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience coordinating multiple public affairs efforts (e.g., activities, programs, special events, campaigns) with a variety of contacts (e.g., public affairs officials, media, community relations officers, business representatives) to develop positive community relations.
  • Experience coordinating media access of high visibility events with the public and media to ensure media coverage meets established protocol procedures.
  • Experience briefing news media representatives and a variety of publics on the organization's programs and activities to increase public understanding of the agency's mission.
  • Experience creating a communication plans with implementation guidance and actions to inform internal and external publics about an organization's policies, programs, and operations.
  • Experience coordinating the flow of authoritative, timely, and responsive information to audiences through the use of broadcast, multimedia, print, web-based, or emerging media content.
