Duties

Help

The CPSC is seeking student interns for the summer under the Pathways Summer Internship Program.  These appointments are not-to-exceed September 30, 2020.  Internships are provided for students with a desire to work in the consumer product safety field and/or public sector.  The work assignments are designed to complement the interns educational pursuits while meeting the expressed needs of the agency. 

Positions are available in the following Offices located in Bethesda, MD:

  • Office of the Commissioner
  • Office of the General Counsel
  • Office of Compliance

You will gain valuable professional, administrative, and/or technical on-the-job training and experience with the opportunity to explore future career possibilities with the CPSC. You will perform legal support work in connection with the assignments and projects of the office to which you are assigned.   

Ideal candidate for this internship is an individual pursing a law degree.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Qualifications

To be eligible for an internship opportunity you must meet the following criteria:

1. You must be a current student (Fall 2020) enrolled at least half time in:

  • A qualifying educational institution pursuing a degree, or a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school), or a post-secondary homeschool curriculum that has been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education); or 
  • A certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum; or 
  • Students who take online courses are eligible to participate so long as all other requirements are met and the school is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.

2. You must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 3.0.

3. You must be at least 16 years of age.

You must maintain status as a student for the duration of this program. 

 

Education

Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.

You MUST maintain status as a student for the duration of this program. You must be pursuing a Law degree.

If you are graduating in Spring 2020 and not pursuing further education in Fall 2020, you are not eligible for this program.

The education must be from an accredited school.  Accredited Schools 

Foreign Education: Education completed outside the United States must have been evaluated by an accredited organization. Accredited Organizations

The qualification requirements must be met within 90 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Additional information

Appointees may be extended or reappointed under this program without further competition. Upon successful completion of the program and at the agency's discretion, the appointee may be converted to a permanent position in the competitive service.
