- Serve as a senior scientist providing guidance to staff members, management officials in the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division (BPPD), and other stakeholders on the pesticide risk assessment/characterization process.
- Develop or revise policies within the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) that assess and characterize environmental pesticide risks.
- Lead the team risk assessment process within BPPD branches and assist the branch chief in all non-supervisory aspects of branch management.
- Collaborate with government agencies, the public, and biopesticide users involved in conducting scientific assessments of pesticide usage

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-14 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as providing oversight and direction on the development of environmental risk assessments.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill in providing technical advice related to the impact of pesticides in the environment; 2) Skill in applying the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) and/or the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA); 3) Skill in oral communication sufficient to discuss policies with diverse audiences; 4) Skill in written communication sufficient to develop guidelines for pesticide registration; 5) Skill in analyzing data related to risk assessments; 6) Ability to lead scientific teams.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.
You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.
You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in toxicology, or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.
You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included the described course work.
