Summary

This position is located in the Division of Clinical Operations, Specialty Services, Physical Therapy (PT)/Podiatry/Orthopedics Service line, PT Department located in Phoenix, Arizona. This position is responsible for the assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, communication & addressing the needs of patients and their families. This position will be administratively supervised by the Clinic Practice Manager with clinical oversight provided by the Chief of Physical Therapy.

Help

  • Conduct comprehensive assessment and develop treatment regimens for patients who are acutely ill or have a combination of severe physical disabilities with secondary complications.
  • Conducts therapeutic activities for the various physical and medical problems encountered in order to directly appeal to and meet the treatment needs of patients.
  • Prepares and recommends estimates of supplies and equipment needed on both long and short term basis to conduct programs planned in addition to conducting inventory control of equipment and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participates in and conducts special projects as assigned.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

  • Education: A graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.
  • Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level; OR
  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Specialized Experience: Experience in planning and providing the full range of physical therapy treatment and procedures. Experience in performing comprehensive assessment for patients who are acutely ill or have a combination of severe physical disabilities with secondary complications; consulting with patients and health professionals to assess physical capabilities and motivate participation in therapeutic activities; conducting ongoing evaluations of therapy to assess patient progress and maintaining patient progress notes; participating in providing consultation services on patient management and discharge.

Applicants Unable to Obtain Transcripts In addition, applicants may have difficulty obtaining their transcripts from their university or college when they try to apply for a position that requires them. As with Tribal enrollment documents, the IHS will make an exception enabling applicants to provide the transcripts after they apply. This will allow IHS hiring officials to select and bring the applicant on board without delay. The IHS HR Office effecting the hire shall flag the hire as on requiring the applicant to submit the necessary transcripts within 60 days after the COVID-19 period officially ends. If the new employee fails to obtain the transcripts, IHS will terminate the employee. Additional information

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
