Duties

Help

You will serve as the Deputy Chief, Information Technology Branch with responsibility for sharing in the planning and directing all aspects of the work of the Branch. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a senior manager and principal adviser on IT issues to senior management officials, with responsibility for overseeing, managing, and directing a full range of IT services for client organizations, including: planning, designing and implementing needed information systems and IT architecture.
  • Play a key role in formulating long-range policies and in developing and implementing strategies and management guidelines for complex and changing information technology systems.
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority for new and advanced computer systems software and IT developments.
  • Conduct IT strategic planning and project management activities. Facilitate teams in conducting analyses, developing goals, objectives, and strategies, and in other strategic tactical, and business planning activities.
  • Oversee documentation, configuration management, maintenance, upgrades, evaluation and quality control of all IT activities.
  • Provide expert technical advice in the monitoring and evaluation of contractor activities.
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include: serving as an IT Project Manager or equivalent by performing tasks such as setting milestones or goals, developing work breakdown structures, conducting cost benefit analyses, overseeing quality control, performing qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, and other project related duties; conducting requirements gathering sessions by meeting with clients, assessing their business needs and determining feasibility from a cost and technical perspective; conducting market research and evaluating vendors for incorporation into an organization's infrastructure; leading end-to-end testing (e.g., writing test scripts, testing for database interactions, communicating with other hardware and software, determining system Go/No Go); evaluating the performance and quality of work of lower-level IT specialists.

In addition to the above requirements, all applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
