Duties

Help

Major duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages all government information gathering and dissemination activities under the FOIA and PA, and serves as the principal advisor to the Director and Deputy Director on matters involving these programs.
  • Counsels Agency staff in the administration and application of the FOIA and PA.
  • Researches and gathers large amounts of sensitive data or information; analyzes requests and evaluates issues; and provides for responsive and responsible disclosure of Agency records.
  • Advises the general public about proper procedures to use when making requests under FOIA/PA.
  • Interacts and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in tracking and processing government information requests - ensuring consistency in policies and procedures.
  • Processes remands received from the Department's FOIA Appeals Unit.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all requests received, disclosures made, and pertinent information concerning the status of all pending requests and appeals.
  • Provides expert advice, assistance, policy guidance, and staff advisory services to senior leadership on FOIA and PA related issues.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicants MUST have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal Service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience formulating polices that oversee and manage an organizational document and records management program that includes Departmental regulations, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) guidelines; and recommend strategies to improve program effectiveness and efficiency.
