Duties

Help

As an Victim Advocate/Prevention Educator, you will:

  • Coordinate and present multidisciplinary sexual assault education and prevention programming with a specific focus on sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and bystander intervention.
  • Assist with continual training and technical assistance. Provide direct assistance to victims and consider their needs and connects them with appropriate resources, including medical care, mental health care, legal advice and spiritual support.
  • Assist the Sexual Assault Prevention/Response Coordinator in planning, developing, and implementing education training and outreach effort around engagement topics such as gender equity, bystander intervention, sexual assault, healthy relationships, and related topics for students, staff, and faculty group. 
  • Assist with the peer education program that focuses on sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence, stalking, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, and a healthy campus climate.
  • Provide information on principles, practices, and techniques of interviewing clients sufficient to evaluate clients’ needs; develop a plan of action which will facilitate health and reduce dysfunctional behavior. 
  • Provides direct assistant to victims. Considers needs and connects them with appropriate resources, including medical care, mental health care, legal advice and spiritual support.
  • Upon request of the victim, attends court/administrative proceedings, medical appointments, civilian and/or federal law enforcement interviews, or other events as necessary to support the victim, providing support in securing medical treatment for injuries; safe shelter; federal and/or civilian protective orders; support before, during, and after trial/administrative hearings; appointments; educational services; transportation; and any other services deemed necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of work in this position, the employee may serve in an "on call" duty status outside of normal work hours that includes but is not limited to: regularly checking email to respond to crises, and as needed respond outside of duty hours to perform duties outlined above.

The ideal candidate is a mid-level professional that understands the dynamics and effects of sexual assault and sexual harassment. The individual must posses the ability to conduct effective training in sexual assault and harassment prevention and be customer service oriented to assist in coordination with internal and external agencies.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet either the education or experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

TO QUALIFY FOR THE GS-9:

On Education, you must have:

  • Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree.

On Experience, you must have at least one full year of specialized equal or equivalent to GS-07, it must include:

  • Experience providing guidance for policy development, prevention education, emergency response, intervention, and support services to victims and survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.

You can also qualify on a combination of higher level graduate education and matching experience. 

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
