If selected for this position you will serve as an Attorney Advisor for the Executive Office of United States Attorneys (EOUSA) located in the Freedom of Information & Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) Office. The primary purpose of the position is to provide a wide range of legal advisory services with respect to FOIA matters for the Assistant Director, FOIA/PA staff, management and staff of EOUSA, the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) and their staff. Duties include but are not limited to:

-Provide the Assistant director, FOIA/PA Staff, with recommended courses of action and the impact of actions for complex policy issues and prepare memoranda and necessary documentation to accompany the recommendations.
- Identify, research, analyze, prepare written reports and act on various FOIA/PA litigation and classified information issues which are unprecedented, unusual, legally complex, or otherwise of a high order of difficulty related to or which impact policies and initiatives of USAOs.
- Serve as an authority and provide expert legal and administrative guidance on the policies, legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to release of information, EOUSA processing procedures and requirements, and precedential cases related to the dissemination of information to the FOIA/PA staff, staff and management of EOUSA, and to the USAOs.
- Provide expert legal advisory and research services on complex FOIA/PA processing procedures and litigation and provide guidance to the Director, EOUSA, other managers at EOUSA, United States Attorneys, Assistant United States Attorneys, and other staff in the United States Attorneys' Offices. The work involves original legal research and analysis, and consultation with other Department Of Justice components and federal agencies, and the preparation of informal opinions, interpretative summaries and formal memoranda.
- Upon notification of pending lawsuits regarding processed cases, manage or personally reconstruct all information, rationale, and activity regarding the cases, and prepare draft declarations for the AUSA or Department attorney of all communications relative to the plaintiffs' requests, including all referrals to other agencies.

Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

-To qualify at the GS-15 grade level applicants must have at least 4 years post J.D. legal or other relevant experience to qualify.

Qualifying experience is defined as experience performing legal analysis related to FOIA/PA; processing complex and simple FOIA/PA requests.

Preferred qualifications: FOIA and Privacy Act, serving as or advising counsel on FOIA litigation; familiarity with electronic case management and document processing software.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Evaluation Method:Once your complete application package is received, it will be reviewed to ensure you meet all job requirements. An attorney interview panel will then review all qualified applicants and make recommendations for invitation to interview. You will be notified if selected for an interview.
