Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a Visual Information Specialist in the Navy Art Branch of the Collections Management Division
  • You will develop assignments in support of informational goals, ans applying knowledge of the subject matter and visual arts methods, techniques, and materials to create artworks.
  • You will apply subject matter knowledge of research source materials, occasionally to the extent of personally visiting sites (combat art trip).
  • You will prepare yearly budget needs to include projected costs of supplies and travel.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. This selective placement factor is: Do you have demonstrated experience planning and creating artworks from personal observation, and moving and coordinating in a tactical environment?

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Developing effective original designs, concepts or visual styles for presentation; 2) Planning and executing original artworks for exhibit and media use that present current operations or history; 3); Advising on the technical advantages or disadvantages of various formats, styles or methods of reproduction; and 4) Researching source materials in order to translate information into original illustrations without the benefit of established formats. Experience must be in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position being filled. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

OR

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

Possess a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Utilizing a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products; 2) Performing work with a variety of art media (e.g., pen-and-ink, pencil, tempera, wash, oils, acrylics, or air brush); and 3) Responding to technical and general inquiries on artwork, assignments, and programs in general. Experience must be in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position being filled. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

OR

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

OR

Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

OR
