Duties

Help
  • Courses range from introductory operations research courses, including linear programming, probability modeling, simulation, and engineering economy, to advanced electives in the area of specialization that supports the Department needs and mission.
  • Directs, coordinates, and evaluates the research activity of doctoral and master of science students.
  • Develops research topics suitable for thesis and dissertation research, covering a broad spectrum of Air Force related problems and, where appropriate, with the active sponsorship of Air Force or other relevant organizations.
  • Directs, advises, and evaluates the research activity of doctoral and master of science students, and serves as a reader on student research committees.
  • Develops research topics suitable for thesis and dissertation research, covering a broad spectrum of Air Force related problems and, where appropriate, with the active sponsorship of Air Force or other relevant organizations.
  • Participates in a research program and performs research in the area of specialization with, as appropriate, the active sponsorship of Air Force or other relevant organizations.
  • Communicates the results of this research to the technical community through publications in scholarly professional journals and presentation at technical meetings.
  • Provides consultation services to Air Force and other appropriate organizations in the area of specialization.
  • Participates in academic committees as appropriate. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Department Head

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess an earned doctoral degree in operations research specifically, or in a related discipline such as industrial engineering, management science or a mathematically rigorous engineering program.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in university research, teaching, and professional service and a record of demonstrated administrative ability and academic leadership is strongly desired. Experience in obtaining external research funding, publishing research results, administrative experience managing multiple projects and budgets involving personnel at various levels, and sound academic and professional leadership abilities is strongly desired. The department is particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals with strong backgrounds in data science or decision analysis. Demonstrated professional knowledge of foundational and advanced topics associated with data analytics, data science or decision analysis are preferred. Possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters. Qualified candidates with specialization in deterministic operations research, simulation modeling and analysis, and stochastic modeling will also be considered.

At the Assistant Professor Rank: For an initial appointment to the academic rank of Assistant Professor, applicants should have a strong potential for both teaching and research at the graduate level. Applicants should have a distinguished academic record and the background, commitment, and desire to teach graduate classes, conduct research, and publish.'

At the Associate Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Assistant Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Associate Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the individual has demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate must have 5 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 3 years of full-time, university-level teaching at the Assistant Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 3 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 6 years of significant professional experience with research credentials normally expected of a full Professor.

At the Full Professor Rank: In addition to the criteria for an Associate Professor, an initial appointment to the academic rank of Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the faculty member has a sustained record of excellence in teaching, has produced a significant body of scholarship that is recognized nationally or internationally, and has demonstrated leadership in service to the discipline. The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. This will normally include no fewer than 6 years of full-time, university-level teaching with a minimum of 3 years at the Associate Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than 6 years of teaching experience, the requirement is 10 years of significant professional experience with research credentials substantially more than those normally expected of a full Professor.

Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, quality of scholarship, and demonstrated service to educational institutions and the discipline commensurate with years in the discipline.

Education

EDUCATION:
You MUST provide original copies of ALL OFFICIAL transcripts for degrees being pursued or obtained (or letter of degree completion if an OFFICIAL transcript is not available due to recent graduation) to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.

Tax Law Impact for PCS: On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025.
