Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate sufficient specialized experience to perform the duties of this position. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to submit a thorough resume that directly relates to this position.
GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: providing support with analyzing desktop systems including software and hardware issues and operating system problems to identify areas that require troubleshooting; delivery of customer support services, including routine installations, configurations, moderate troubleshooting, and/or regular customer assistance, in response to customer requirements; or communicating factual, technical and procedural IT information clearly, orally, and in writing to include assisting in the preparation of briefings to technical and non-technical personnel of all levels.
OR
You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.
You may also have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, in another field not listed above, if the degree required a minimum of 24 semester hours in one (or more) of the fields identified above, and which required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
OR
You have specialized experience and graduate level education as described above that, when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Only graduate-level education in excess of the first full year may be used in this calculation. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate level hours that exceed 36 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of specialized experience, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%.
GS-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: troubleshooting and analyzing desktop systems including software and hardware issues, operating system problems, and interactions between all desktop systems; planning and delivery of customer support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training, in response to customer requirements; or communicating factual, technical and procedural IT information clearly, orally and in writing as well as preparing and presenting briefings to technical and non-technical personnel at all levels.
Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualifications Standards Handbook of General Schedule Positions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
If you wish to be considered under Merit Promotion or Non-Competitive procedures, you MUST apply under the Merit Promotion announcement ST-10693361-20-MLJ.
All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 01/29/2020.
Education
If you do not meet the specialized experience requirements, you may also qualify with education. You MUST submit transcripts (official or unofficial) with this application if you wish to qualify based on education.
GS-11: Combination of education and experience as specified above.
For example, an applicant who has 1.5 full years of Ph.D. level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE: Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Verify School accreditation. All education claimed by applicants will be verified by the appointing agency accordingly. *** If you are using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education. *** For further information, click on: Foreign Education.
