Duties

Help

Provides accurate and timely assistance and advice to all military service members, family members, and Department of Defense civilians directly involved with Department of Army Activities. Advises commands in the correction of injustices affecting these individuals, and in the elimination of conditions detrimental to the efficiency or reputation of the U.S. Army.

Investigates and resolves cases of alleged wrong doing and misconduct by military personnel and Department of Army civilians. Has primary responsibility for planning and completing comprehensive investigations and inquiries of allegations, complaints and issues and on-site execution of investigative operations. Responsible for independently preparing complete, legally sufficient Reports of Investigation/inquiry which include findings and recommendations for corrective action.

Responsible for the Inspector General inspection program planning and operations for ATEC. Plans and conducts Inspector General command climate assessments as appropriate and required and prepares and presents reports of the results to the Commander. Inputs and maintains files in the Inspector General Action Request System (IGAR) in accordance with AR 20-1 and governing policies.

  • In accordance with AR 20-1, B-4b and d, the following applies:
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Must successfully graduate from the Inspector General School and maintain certification in accordance with regulation; and practice IG attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an Army IG.
  • Any serious criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET.
  • AR 20-1, Appendix B-4 b (1) applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigation.
  • Applicants must provide a social security number for the database check to be completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Conducting preliminary analysis and fact-finding in the investigation of alleged wrong doings or misconduct, and preparing complete and accurate investigative reports, AND 2) Planning and conducting IG inspections and preparing complete and accurate inspection reports with root causes and recommendations for corrective action, AND 3) Providing assistance to Soldiers, Family Members, DA Civilians, and non-government civilians who request assistance or file a complaint, AND 4) conducting briefings to senior officials on the results of investigations, inspections, and/or assistance cases

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service NH-02/GS-11.
