Summary

Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is seeking a board certified or eligible physician in Occupational or Preventative Medicine. This physician will provide services in the Compensation and Pension (C & P) Service, Nashville, Tennessee. This position is responsible for providing disability examinations within the guidelines set forth by the C & P Service, TVHS, and the VA Disability Medical Assessment Office (DMA)

Duties

Help

The duties and responsibilities for this position will include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Perform history and physical examinations, orders and evaluates appropriate diagnostic studies.
  • Generate C & P exam reports using automated systems and records.
  • Engage in peer review procedures and other C & P administrative duties as directed.
  • Function as a resource advisor to other examiners.
  • Be proficient in the of MS Word and Outlook.
Work Schedule: Mon -Fri, 0800 - 1630

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/07/2020.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Strong communication, leadership, and time management skills.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Duties are primarily sedentary in nature, but also require intermittent periods of bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, and similar activities. The work requires average agility and dexterity.
  • Normal safety precautions while working in an office/clinic or inpatient unit type environment, which is well lighted, clean and does not present hazards to personal safety. There may be occasional risk of physical harm, which requires special precautions and training. The incumbent may be exposed to infectious diseases and medical/psychiatric emergencies.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
