Duties

Help
  • Develop and prepare effective communication strategies regarding patient safety.
  • Educate medical treatment facility personnel on their roles and responsibilities in the Patient Safety Program to ensure quality patient care.
  • Provide formal and informal educational programs to meet the needs of individuals or groups as it relates to the Healthcare Program.
  • Respond orally to inquiries to resolve issues regarding patient safety.
  • Provide feedback to activity and dental clinic personnel on lessons learned and process/system improvement.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns and/or issues in patient safety.
  • Make recommendations for improvements in patient safety policies and/or procedures based on trend analysis.
  • Ensure dental treatments facilities comply with inspection and certification requirements.
  • Provide recommendations for the cleaning and sterilization of dental devices.
  • Provide patient safety administrative support for a medical facility to ensure quality patient care.
  • Implement patient safety policies and procedures to promote safety for patients in a healthcare setting.
  • Recommend patient safety initiatives to be considered during strategic planning of a healthcare program.
  • Review materials to ensure compliance with the standards of a patient safety program.
  • Develop patient safety improvement objectives based on evaluation of collected data.
  • Respond to inquiries concerning a variety of medical, personnel and administrative matters to discuss.
  • Work with a governing board to formulate new policies and procedures specific to patient safety.
  • Develop and prepare effective communication strategies regarding patient safety.
  • Review material to ensure compliance with clinic safety standards.

  • The duties of this position require Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) approximately 20% of the duty time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires a Hepatitis B immunization series as well as an immunization screening.
  • This position requires a medical clearance examination, including the wearing of self-contained breathing apparatus and may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experiene requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Patient Safety Manager:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcript.)

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience collecting data, identifying problems/trends and proposing solutions to improve the safety of health care . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Hospital Administration, Medical Science or Nursing. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcript.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcript.)

Education
