Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a highly respected elite team that is responsible for complex digital forensic investigative analysis work to further criminal investigations. At the full performance level, typical work assignments will include:

-Support criminal investigators and federal prosecutors by planning and performing highly complex or large-scale forensic examinations of digital, electronic and mobile device data from a variety of sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence.
-Advise federal prosecutors on digital forensics issues (collection, processing, etc.) providing expert consultation throughout investigations and prosecutions on matters relating to digital evidence or digital investigative analysis.
-Employ forensic tools and techniques to support the investigation of complex computer fraud or other electronic crimes, crack files and system passwords, detect steganography and recover deleted, fragmented and corrupted data from digital media of all types.
-Collaborate with other forensic analysts, prosecutors and criminal investigators to identify methods and procedures for recovery, preservation, and presentation of digital evidence.
-Conduct research relating to digital forensics and cybercrimes issues and apply industry-accepted principles and practices in retrieving, recovering, and preserving digital evidence
-Develop non-attributable internet access to support criminal investigator and create internet access that protects undercover criminal investigators' law enforcement affiliation.
- Assist criminal investigators by providing technical advice concerning electronic media search, seizure and evidence handling and participate in pre-seizure planning to address technical and legal issues associated with executing searches of digital devices.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-09: To be qualified at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service applying appropriate techniques in retrieving digital evidence and performing forensic examinations of electronic data. OR

EDUCATION: Possess one of the following types of education in Digital Forensics or a closely related field: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or higher; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR

COMBINATION: Combination of specialized experience and graduate education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 1 full year is creditable.)

GS-11: To be qualified at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service applying appropriate techniques in retrieving digital evidence; performing forensic examinations of electronic data from a variety of file and operating systems; and analyzing data from a variety of digital sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence. OR

EDUCATION: Possess one of the following types of education in Digital Forensics or a closely related field: a PhD. or equivalent graduate degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree or LLM. OR

COMBINATION: Combination of specialized experience and graduate education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 1 full year is creditable.)

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
