Help

The Senior Legislative Assistant is a member of the Office of Government Relations (OGR) at the Corporation for National and Community Service. The Senior Legislative Assistant serves as the liaison between the agency and elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels. This position is full time and reports to the Deputy Director.

  • Serves as liaison between the Corporation and elected officials, including Members of Congress, Governors, and local officials and their staff, developing relationships, educating them on Corporation program and resources, and highlighting special projects and responding to inquiries for program information.
  • Oversees announcements and notifications regarding CNCS activities and missions to elected officials.
  • Manages the development of short-and long term strategy and stakeholder engagement under the direction of the Deputy Director of OGR.
  • Serves as an OGR representative in cross-development initiatives.
  • Coordinates the development and management of organizational policy to ensure consistency.
  • Represents the office at legislative and community events.
  • Coordinates site visits and district events for elected officials.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the NY-0301-02 pay grade, which is at, or equivalent to the GS-09 in the federal service performing duties which includes coordinating responses to legislative inquiries; providing management with information from stakeholders, elected officials, and their staff; developing relationships to highlight the agency programs; managing and coordinating the development of the agency program initiatives both short term and long term strategic strategies; tracking and overseeing legislative and community events; preparing and briefing agency materials to senior stakeholders

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or LL.M., if related leading to such a degree. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards.

You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable.

Status candidates will be referred on one selection list only, i.e., either merit promotion or non-competitive. Nonstatus candidates who are eligible for Noncompetitive referral, e.g. Peace Corps, VRA, etc., will be referred under Noncompetitive procedures only.
