As an Investigator with the DOE Office of Inspector General, the incumbent receives, reviews, researches and investigates allegations of waste, fraud, abuse, mismanagement and whistleblower reprisal affecting Department programs. The incumbent receives and analyzes complaints received by the Hotline, determining whether the complaint falls within the scope of fraud, waste and abuse violations. The incumbent prepares investigative plans and conducts investigations for all aspects of reprisal and administrative misconduct investigations, conducts interviews, takes sworn statements, collects and analyzes evidence for credibility, and drafts reports of investigation. Also, drafts Congressional correspondence providing information pertaining to specific investigations conducted and tracks corrective actions taken or planned by agencies as a result of investigative findings and briefs the Deputy Inspector General, Inspector General and other high-level Government officials on investigative findings.

Appointment to this position may be subject to successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This position requires a security clearance and is subject to drug testing. The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter. Failure to pass subsequent tests could result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT - A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
