Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist in the High Technology Investigative Unit (HTIU) located within CEOS you will:

  • Conduct complex investigations and analysis of all types of digital evidence.
  • Collaborate in various investigations conducted through undercover work, analytical processes, reverse engineering of applications and the collection of evidence from the Internet.
  • Write programs and software tools to assist Department attorneys, digital investigative analysts and government agents analyze digital evidence using programming languages such as HTML, PHP, python.
  • Testify in federal court as an expert witness.
  • Conduct training and deliver presentations before a range of audiences.
  • Conduct on-scene digital evidence identification, collection, preservation and analysis in support of searches being conduct by federal law enforcement agents.
  • Use programming languages to write programs to automate repetitive tasks associated with capturing web sites, documents server processes, and parsing voluminous data sets.
  • Install, configure, and maintain remote access and VPN connectivity to external investigative partners (NCMEC VPN and Interpol i247 VPN).
  • Analyze existing code in order to assess the investigative significance of seized server data including from web servers, email servers, file servers, chat servers, and Internet Relay Chat servers.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-12 federal grade level. This experience must include duties such as using relational databases to write programs to migrate data stored in one format into other formats for integration into existing data format; installing, configuring and maintaining Unix and Windows based LAMP operating systems; and installing, configuring and maintaining existing routers and switches.

To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-13 federal grade level. This experience must include duties such as using relational databases to write programs to migrate data stored in one format into other formats for integration into existing data format; installing, configuring and maintaining Unix and Windows based LAMP operating systems; installing, configuring and maintaining existing routers and switches; leading the implementation of new hardware, software, or network systems; and presenting complex technical concepts to project or management stakeholders.

Selective Placement Factor: To be found fully qualified for this position, applicants must demonstrate, in the body of their resume, their qualifying experience utilizing HTML, PHP, and python programming languages.
