Duties

Help
  • You will use desktop publishing technology to prepare manuscripts for editing, proofreading, indexing, and typesetting.
  • You will verify accepted English usage and grammatical structure as set forth in the Chicago Manual of Style or History Division Writing Guide.
  • You will provide assistance with layout and design principles to format manuscript text and incorporate photos, illustrations, and other graphics.
  • You will collaborate with subject matter experts to obtain requirements, policy formulation, and information about new initiatives to generate subject reports.
  • You will analyze manuscripts to verify journalistic standards are met and in compliance with publishing and security policies

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Demonstrates collecting, analyzing, and combining information from a variety of sources; performs editorial functions (e.g. copy editing, proofreading, and indexing) ensuring various publications are readable for the intended audiences, grammatically and stylistically correct, and are in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style and best practices for scholarly publishing.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR
  • LL.B. or J.D., if related OR
  • Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
