Duties

Help
  • Participate and occasionally lead in the research, planning, and execution of independent and objective technical evaluations related to systems and acquisition programs in various stages of their life cycle.
  • Provide technical expertise or guidance to evaluate areas such as major weapons production engineering, system logistics support, system modification programs, and technology development.
  • Develop evaluation plans to define the scope, objective, methodology, schedule, and activities needed to execute technical evaluations.
  • Work within a team to establish and maintain effective coordination with evaluated organizations in support of technical evaluation objectives.
  • Collect and compile data for analysis, tabulations, charts, and graphs to support proposed technical evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Develop proposed technical evaluation findings and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Prepare oral presentations and written reports to summarize technical evaluations.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of the DoD acquisition process, DoD construction and infrastructure, DoD policy, and industry developments in various engineering disciplines.
  • Evaluate and provide comments on proposed audits, investigations, evaluations or studies.
  • Apply a multi-disciplined engineering approach to an evaluation assessing the employment of systems, engineering principles, guidance, and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Position has been designated as Non-Critical Sensitive; incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.
  • The incumbent will be required to serve a two year probationary period.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement: A bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering, the curriculum for which was in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. You must submit your transcripts at the time of application.

OR

A degree in professional engineering, the curriculum for which was in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) A degree for which the curriculum included differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. You must submit your transcripts at the time of application.

OR

A combination of relevant professional engineering education and experience as evidenced by having successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the specified courses as listed above; or (2) A combination of relevant professional engineering education and experience as evidenced by having successfully completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), PLUS at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. You must submit your transcripts at the time of application.

AND

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 or equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as experience in one or more disciplines of engineering such as Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Civil, Structural, Chemical, Computer Science or Materials Engineering. Experience in conducting and supporting engineering and technical reviews, assessments, or evaluations is desired. This includes experience collecting, analyzing, or compiling data for oral and written presentations or reports. Proven experience of participation in technical review and input into decision-making in defense weapons systems or infrastructure acquisition programs. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in engineering concepts, principles, techniques, and practices to interpret and apply in the development of assessments and evaluations.
