Summary

This position is located in the communications team within the Office of the Assistant Secretary, the Office of Nuclear Energy.  A successful candidate must possess a high proficiency in formulation of complex digital media and in the creation of content related to nuclear energy. The information created must be extremely accurate and creatively presented to inform and educate the public on topics related to nuclear energy.

Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist (Digital Media), you will:

  • -Serve as web content manager for the assigned Office. Oversee the content, design and management of the Office’s intranet, internet and digital media social media platforms, working directly with subject matter experts, staff members and content providers to design pages, approve content for publishing, and make changes to content, as needed.
  • -Serve on the product development team and creates products for web posting that fully and effectively utilize the web for Office efforts in collaboration with industry and academia to promote science, technology and innovation.
  • -Develop new web pages.
  • -Ensure the content on web site and digital media platforms is appropriate for public distribution and takes steps to correct or remove inappropriate content.
  • -Determine which information to feature in order to enhance visual and information effectiveness.
  • -Collaborate with Public Affairs to determine the best architecture, design and directional features for the Office’s web site, and identify target audiences and their informational needs.
  • -Respond to posts and maintain an active digital media presence.
  • -Write, coordinate and disseminate news releases and feature articles and news articles via the internet and other appropriate media; take and selects photographs and write captions to accompany releases on the internet and other appropriate media with an emphasis on video shooting, editing, and producing video for events, social media and other digital content uses.
  • -Set up social media town halls and live stream events for digital media.
  • -Prepare web site and digital media reports for the senior leadership. Establish and maintain data files of briefings, photographs and audiovisual materials.
  • -Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes providing expert advisory services to senior management on the effectiveness of social media and related outreach programs; developing policies and procedures for efficient and effective digital content management for digital communications programs, including web/social media platforms; and lead the development of products specifically related to nuclear energy topics.

  1. Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques employed in communications in order to independently produce and manage social media content.

  2. Knowledge of nuclear technology, the current state of the nuclear industry, and ongoing Government funded nuclear energy programs, and applicable organization regulations and policy.

  3. Skill to design and manage the Office’s intranet, internet and digital media social media platforms, and ensure compliance when editing or approving content for publishing.

  4. Skill in producing multimedia presentations and products for various internal and external groups informing them of programs, objectives and activities such as video production.

  5. Ability to fully and effectively utilize the web for Office efforts in collaboration with industry and academia to promote science, technology and innovation.

  6. Ability to orally communicate and identify target audiences and their informational needs.

  7. Ability to prepare written materials such as news releases and feature articles via the internet and other appropriate media with an emphasis on digital content.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

The Department of Energy uses an application tracking system to evaluate the responses you provide in the applicant assessment questionnaire to place you into an initial quality category via OPM's Category Rating procedures.
