Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the Branch Head for the Physics and Engineering Branch
  • You will assess technical approaches that safely deliver goods and services to program sponsors
  • You will interact with program managers and other IHEODTD managers to collaborate and provide direction about potential future programs, while managing budget, personnel, and facilities to meet current and future demands.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field I- Science and Technology Manager Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 or GS-12/13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer or Scientist conducting or managing energetics projects. Examples of specialized experience may include: serving on a team or independently conducting energetics research, development, or test & evaluation; publishing explosive research work in technical journals, energetics conferences, or reports.

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:


0800- PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERIES: Have successfully completed a professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) college or university. ~OR Have successfully completed a professional engineering degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics. ~OR Have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. I have a Professional Engineering Registration to demonstrate the adequacy of my education and experience. ~OR Have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a professional engineering degree. I have successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, which demonstrates the adequacy of my education and experience. ~OR Have successfully completed a degree with at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, and in professional engineering curriculum (as described in response 'B' above). ~OR Have successfully completed a degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and I have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

1310 SERIES: Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics - or - A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound

1320 SERIES: Have a Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. - OR - Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
