Duties

Help
  • Maintains the imagery files and directory for the state.

  • Assists conservation districts and the State Conservation Commission in their information efforts by developing news articles and feature stories relative to activities of those groups.

Qualifications

GS-09 Specialized Experience: One or more years of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:

  • assist in maintaining centralized files, records, handbooks, other reference materials and equipment for the information function of the state;
  • assist in the operation of the State Office library;
  • assist in the development and distribution of public awareness campaigns; and
  • help plan and coordinate an effective public information program throughout the state.
OR

Education: possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D. with major course of study in a field directly related to the work of this position. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.

OR

Combination: a combination of the specialized experience as described in "A" above and graduate education as described in "B" above, such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for this specialty and grade. Only graduate education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be used when combining education and experience for this specialty and grade. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.

GS-11 Specialized Experience: One or more years of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 level of the Federal service, performing the following duties:
  • develop and carry out public awareness campaigns for State conservation programs;
  • review photographs taken by staff for qualify and composition for using presentations, soil survey publications and displays;
  • help agency personnel with development of public involvement campaigns, preparing information materials, and design public meetings, workshops etc.;
  • organize and coordinate print and broadcast media interviews with agency personnel; and
  • design strategies and procedures to obtain input and opinions from a variety of audiences which are used for policy decisions.
OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. for which the major course of study must be in a field directly related to the work of this position. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts if claiming education to qualify.

OR

Combination: A combination of the specialized experience and graduate education as described above, such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for this specialty and grade. Only graduate education in excess of the first 36 semester hours may be used when combining education and experience for this specialty and grade. Additional information

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Applicants who meet basic minimum qualifications will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, applicants eligible for veteran's preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans. Category placement will be determined based on applicants' quality of experience and the extent they possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) or competencies:
Communications and Media, Influencing/Negotiating, Managing Human Resources, Oral Communication, and Technical Competence
