Duties

Help
  • Perform a wide variety of duties involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of facilities including equipment, structures, buildings and grounds, requiring the use of various trade practices.
  • Make repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components; or assisting higher-graded mechanics in disassembling, repairing, and assembling major systems, components, and operating mechanisms.
  • Construct, maintain, repair and alter exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of a variety of brick, block, stone and related masonry composites.
  • Perform general carpentry work associated with maintaining buildings and grounds.
  • Independently rig for lifting small and medium-sized loads. Under the direction of the lift supervisor, rig for lifting heavy objects where multiple riggers are used.
  • Assist in installing and repairing various pipe lines and fixtures. Join, seal, and test systems and equipment for proper pressures, leak-free joints, and operation. Maintain existing plumbing systems including water closets, fixtures and drains.
  • Operate overhead shop cranes and various forklift trucks and mobile lifting equipment including man lifts.
  • Operate pick-up and stake bed trucks to transport construction materials and spare parts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program due to the capacity of the overhead crane operated. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.

Qualifications

Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. Seasonal employees are permanent employees who are placed in non-duty/non-pay status and recalled to duty in accordance with pre-established conditions of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an MAINTENANCE WORKER without more than normal supervision. Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision such as rough carpentry work, machinery repair, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. I operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to: overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION

  • Physical Effort: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes onfloating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, PFDs, hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment.
