Summary

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury, whose mission is to collect, analyze, & share information needed to combat financial criminal activity, particularly money laundering that finances crime or terrorist activity. The incumbent is a Pathways Program Participant to perform duties that are characteristic of the occupational series in the GS-300 – General Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services Group.

This is a non-sensitive position designated as low risk public trust, favorable adjudication of a Tier 1 investigation is required.

The following are the duties of this position, Student Trainee (Office Technical Support), at the GS-05. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • From brief notes or verbal instructions, compose, type, and print office material in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Process support service functions to ensure the orderly and efficient accomplishment of the work for tasks in communications, files and records, forms, graphics, mail, printing, procurement, property, space, or travel.
  • Ensure products or services satisfy user needs. Uses judgment to answer recurring and routine questions.
  • Identify recurring technical problems or system inefficiencies and make recommendations to prevent recurring patterns/problems.

Eligibility Requirements

1) You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment as follows: An individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (high school, college (4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate) in a qualifying and accredited educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93–842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program. 2) GPA: Every semester, you must maintain good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.

-To qualify for the grade 02 level, you must meet the following requirements:

A. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of high school or GED diploma
OR
B. Experience: You may qualify with 3 months of general experience. General experience for this position includes:
-Three months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled
OR
C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

-To qualify for the grade 03 level, you must meet the following requirements:

A. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study
OR
B. Experience: You may qualify with 6 months of general experience. General experience for this position includes:
-Six months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

-To qualify for the grade 04 level, you must meet the following requirements:

A. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree
OR
B. Experience: You may qualify with one year of experience. General experience for this position includes:
-One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled
OR
 C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

-To qualify for the grade 05 level, you must meet the following requirements:

A. Education: In the Internship Program you may qualify based solely on education as follows: Completion of 4 full academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree
OR
B. Experience: You may qualify with one year of spcialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes duties such as:
-Producing a wide range of documents using office automation software, desktop publishing, databases and/or spreadsheet. OR
-
Receiving phone calls, providing information on routine or procedural matters, or referring questions to appropriate staff member. OR
-
Enters, deletes, modifies, and retrieves data from established databases.

 C. You may qualify with a combination of qualifying education and experience. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • All selectees must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
  • Complete a trial period, which is at a minimum the entire length of the Internship program.
  • Provide proof of education (transcripts) prior to the job offer; An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
