Duties

Help

As a Deputy Inspector General, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • professional knowledge and experience in directing audits, inspections, evaluations and criminal and general investigations.
  • knowledge of internal and government auditing principles and methodologies.
  • knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to agency programs in order to serve as Deputy Inspector General.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • reviews activities to be audited or inspected and prepares or updates audit or inspection procedures to be used in audit/inspection.
  • assists and advises the IG in publishing guidance for use by agency management regarding responsibility for ensuring avoidance of fraud, waste and abuse.
  • assists the IG in performing administrative, technical and professional legal supervision of the staff.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify for the PG - 15.

Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

U.S. Citizenship is Required.

Selectees must pass a drug test prior to appointment.

Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.

Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.

Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Deputy Inspector General, PG -1801-15, you must meet the following requirements:

Applicants must meet the SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION. Applicants who do not meet the Selective Placement Factor are ineligible for further consideration.
Selective Placement Factor(s): Skills, Knowledge, Ability or other work characteristics basic to-and- essential for satisfactory performance on the job. Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment or placement and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet the Selective Placement Factor are ineligible for further consideration. (Note: You must address the Selective Placement Factor in a separate attachment to your resume. If you do not address the Selective Placement Factor separately, you will receive no further consideration for this position.

Selective Placement Factor #1- Demonstrate one year of supervisory or managerial experience preferably in and Office of Inspector General that may include experience in investigative programs, audits, inspections and evaluations.

And APPLICANTS MUST ALSO MEET THE SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level PG-14 or GS-14 in order to qualify for this position. Specialized experience may include planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the Inspector General's (IG) investigative, inspections and audit functions and operations 2) conducting, leading and directing investigations of the most sensitive nature; 3) providing oversight responsibility of inspections, investigative, and audit functions in an effort to deter fraud, waste, mismanagement and abuse; and 4) developing and implementing policy for the conduct of inspections, audits, and investigations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability,Top Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
